“Don’t Sleep on Your Gifts”

📖 Scripture: 1 Peter 4:10 (MSG)

“Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God’s words; if help, let it be God’s help.”

📚 The Break Down

  • “Be generous with the different things God gave you” – Notice Peter says “different things” (plural). God didn’t give everyone the same gift. Your gift is unique to you and needed by the body.
  • “passing them around so all get in on it” – This isn’t about hoarding or competing. It’s about circulation. Your gift is meant to flow through you, not stop with you.
  • “if words, let it be God’s words; if help, let it be God’s help” – Whatever your gift is, it should point back to God. You’re the vessel, He’s the source.

🔎 Context – Peter’s writing to scattered believers who might feel like they don’t have much to offer. He’s saying, “Actually, you do—and God expects you to use it.” This isn’t about having big, flashy gifts. It’s about being faithful with what you have.

🔥 Life Check – You know that thing you’re good at? That thing people always come to you for? That’s not coincidence—that’s calling. Stop downplaying your gifts like they’re accidents. God was intentional when He made you.

✍🏾 Puttin’ it in Action – This week, use your gift to help someone else. If you can cook, feed somebody. If you can listen, counsel somebody. If you can organize, help somebody get their life together. Don’t hoard what God gave you to share.

💡 What This Really Means – Your gifts aren’t just about you succeeding—they’re about the Kingdom advancing. When you use what God gave you, you become His hands and feet in the world.

🙏🏾 Altar Call to Action – God, help me stop making excuses for why I can’t use what You’ve given me. Show me who needs what I have to offer, and give me the courage to step up.
